Can you remember the person who told you that animals can’t talk? “Only in stories,” they told us. But that wasn’t your first instinct. Children believe that animals can talk. Somewhere down the line, a person told you:
“They are not like us. We are smarter than them. They don’t understand things like we do.”
Does this sound familiar? It’s the same thing people used to believe about their human slaves. It’s the same thing men used to believe about women. (Some still do). All oppression and human wars were built on these words. Are they true? Of course not.
So why would we continue to believe them about our animals?
Someone probably also told you that mental communication isn’t real. This is also false, passed down to keep humanity cut off from the natural world. Because if we knew how deeply we are loved, we would live our lives very differently.
